PKC is activated by the tumor agonist phorbol ester, which can phosphorylate transcription activators, thereby increasing the expression of oncogenes, promoting cancer development, and intervening in other physiological processes. PKC is an important regulator of vascular permeability and is associated with a variety of vascular diseases, including diabetic hyperglycemia, as well as smoking-induced endothelial cell damage and tissue damage. Low-level activation of PKC causes substantial changes in endothelial permeability, leading to inflammation and disease.
