Epoxidase is a membrane-bound protease involved in the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins. It has two isomeric forms, namely COX-1 and COX-2. In many tissues, COX-1 is frequently expressed while COX-2 is low or absent. Studies have shown that COX-2 is expressed to varying degrees in rectal cancer, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, prostate cancer, breast cancer and ovarian cancer, and is associated with tumorigenesis.
