Claudin-6 is a protein encoded by the human CLDN6 gene and a member of the Claudins family. Claudin-6 plays a major role in the specific closure of tight junctions in the intercellular space and is the receptor for hepatitis C virus entry into hepatocytes. Claudin-6 gene methylation may be related to esophageal tumorigenesis.
