Mammaglobin Antibody (IHC)

Mammaglobin is a mammary gland-associated glycoprotein that is a distant relative of members of the secretin family (including uteroglobulin and lipophilin). Unlike other secretin family members, mammaglobulin mRNA is specifically expressed in breast tissue. Studies have shown that this protein is a sensitive marker for detecting latent breast cancer cells in sentinel lymph nodes and peripheral blood. In immunohistochemistry, the antibody detects mammaglobulin in breast cancer tissue with a sensitivity of up to 80%. When combined with other breast-specific markers such as GCDFP-15, the sensitivity of detecting mammaglobulin is as high as 84%. Data show that mammaglobulin plays a crucial role in identifying whether primary cancer has metastasized.
